“I can see clearly now the rain is gone / I can see all obstacles in my way” — Johnny Nash - I Can See Clearly Now (Official Audio)
“…your tongue wants to know the contours of your mouth because you need to know what is you, and what is not you…” – Jordan B. Peterson
To see clearly, start with your wisdom teeth.
Your tongue is constantly mapping your mouth—not just out of curiosity, but necessity. You need to know what’s you and what isn’t. You need to know what belongs and what doesn’t—especially while eating—so you don’t bite your own cheek or swallow something dangerous. That’s clarity: a useful, working model of your own inner landscape.
The same principle applies to the world.
You must map it. And when your map doesn’t match reality, you suffer.
Lose a tooth and you’ll feel it immediately—your mental model of your own mouth no longer fits. You bite wrong. It’s disorienting. And so it is with life: when something changes, or when something was never quite what you thought… you feel anxious, lost, or even betrayed.
Clarity is the remedy.
But seeing clearly is hard. What you see depends on what you value. And what you value shapes how you look—what you focus on, what you ignore, what you assume.
So to see clearly, you must first examine what you value. And then—gently, bravely—ask:
What should I value?
This is not a call for perfection. It’s a call for integrity—for revising the map as the terrain reveals itself. You can learn to see clearly.
But only if you’re willing to change what you think you know.
