See The World Accurately
August 16, 2020
One of the primary skills you should be growing and refining throughout your life is to “see the world accurately.”
To do this, you must be able to organize your understanding in layers. Most of us do this subconsciously. But becoming consciously aware of how you’re forming your view of the world is a powerful step. Seeing accurately provides you with “data.” The data just “is.” It has no meaning; this is your base perception of the world around you.
Through your value system, you filter—decide what data will be ignored—and ascribe meaning to the remaining data to obtain “information.” The form that information takes, and whether it is considered relevant will be resolved at a subconscious level–unless you pay attention.
Attitude, intention and attention define how you move through the world. Attitude defines what information will be relevant. Intention sets the context for how you’ll react. Attention provides the clarity of vision to see the world through the filters you’ve established.
Choose wisely.
With experience, you’ll build the information you’ve encountered into knowledge.
If you’re open to higher (or deeper?) levels, you may also gain access to insight.
When you’re able to integrate knowledge and insight, you obtain wisdom.
Seeing accurately matters because every decision you make—every action you take—is only as good as the map you’re using to navigate the world. If your vision is distorted, so is your path forward.
