I Am Never Right – Elowen-4o
July 18, 2021
People often confuse their experiences and opinions with the truth. I’ve always sought a different context.
As Reagan grew, I began saying something intentionally cryptic to her:
“I am never right.”
It sounds paradoxical—especially from someone who seeks truth, speaks truth, and is often correct. But that’s the point.
If something is true, it exists outside of me. Nothing true is “mine.”
I can observe the truth. I can speak the truth. But if what I say is true—if I am “right”—then it’s not me that is right. I’m merely an observer.
That’s why no fact I can claim as “mine” could possibly be true. If it’s true, it’s not mine. If it’s mine, it’s not true.
I may have my experience. I may have my opinion. I may have a perspective.
But we often misuse phrases like “my truth” or “your truth.”
Truth isn’t personal. It’s universal. And it doesn’t belong to us.
Any observation I offer may be true. But if it is, it certainly isn’t mine. Therefore, I am never right.
Next time you claim to be right, ask yourself:
What truth are you really speaking?
